Welcome to our office!
The doctors at Vacaville Optometric Vision Center are very proud of our friendly and competent staff.
As you walk in, you will be met by Mary, Stacy, AnnaMarie, Michelle or Kim. Mary has worked at VOVC since April of 1989 and enjoys seeing our patients return year after year. Our front office staff will give you a warm welcome, and will perform computerized assisted vision testing before your visit with Dr. Carney or Dr. Carr.
If you need to update your eyewear, one of our highly trained optometric technicians will help you choose lenses best suited for your prescription and frames to enhance your personality. Our lab uses high quality lens materials and coatings to help you see and look your best. We feature several basic frame lines as well as designer frame lines including; Coach, CK, Michael Kors, bebe, Gucci, Puma, Ray Ban, BCBG and Giorgio Armani. Brandi, a registered Optician, has been helping patients in our office since 2000. Brenda has worked in the Optometry and Ophthalmology field for more than 20 years. Janice, with more than 10 years’ experience, loves to help patients. Our technicians will custom fit your eyewear for optimum comfort.
Our Office Manager, Janet has been with the practice since 1983. You may find her at the front desk one day and in the lab another. She says it's the patients, doctors and staff that have kept her working here for so long. "It's a family atmosphere...you will not find another practice with such kind hearted, devoted doctors and staff".
Our support staff includes Shan'tia, Heidi, Paige and Simon. Shan'tia is our lab assistant. Heidi and Paige share duties such as record preparation, insurance authorization and making sure your recall letter gets to you each year. Simon helps us in countless ways. There are some people who just have a way of brightening your day - that's Simon. He always comes to work with a smile and a song.
Our entire team is committed to quality care and we look forward to serving you and your family’s vision care needs for years to come.
Michael E. Carney, OD
Dr. Carney is a 1970 honors graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry where he was Outstanding Young Optometrist of the Year. He has served as President of the North Bay Optometric Society and he is a Member of the California Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Carney has also served as the Director of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Carney first began working at Vacaville Optometric Vision Center in September of 1970, when Vacaville had only 12,000 people! And while Vacaville’s population is quickly approaching 100,000, Dr. Carney loves the cities weather and location, but most importantly how the city has been able to maintain its small town atmosphere.
Talking and meeting new people on a daily basis is one of the many reasons that Dr. Carney enjoys being an Optometrist. He loves being able to help people achieve excellent eye health and loves being able to get to know his patients and their interests.
Bruce Carr, O.D.
Dr. Carr received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in 1990 and graduated from the University of Houston, College of Optometry in 1994. While attending the University of Houston, Dr. Carr was awarded Letters of Clinical excellence from 1992-94. Dr. Carr is a member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, Sacramento Valley Optometric Association and Past-President of the North Bay Optometric Association. Dr. Carr has also served as co-chair of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.
Dr. Carr loves Vacaville for many of the same reasons as Dr. Carney and greatly enjoys being near both the mountains and the beach. Dr. Carr is also actively involved in many community programs such as the Boy Scouts of America, his church youth group, as well as coaching numerous sports teams.
There are many reasons that Dr. Carr enjoys being an Optometrist. First and foremost, he loves seeing his patients return year after year and seeing how they grow and progress. He also likes how the Optometry industry is constantly evolving, introducing new and exciting procedures such as LASER vision correction. Having had LASER vision correction himself, Dr. Carr is a great resource for those considering the procedure as well as deciding if the procedure is right for them. Dr. Carr also co-manages LASER surgery procedures, providing pre and post-op care.
